SEW TEACH ME ™

YOUTH LEARNING TO SEW FOR FREE

Sew Teach Me is an educational non-profit program that teaches kids to sew in a safe and comfortable environment. Each volunteer mentor has gone through a background check and been trained to work with students. Our goal is that students can learn how to sew, at no cost to them. It was founded in 2016 at QuiltWorks in Bend, Oregon and is organized by a team of volunteers.  It is currently housed at Anvil Sewing located at 2550 NE Hwy 20 #140, Bend, OR 97701.

Interested students between the ages of 8 and 18 years are matched with competent sewing mentors. Our volunteers and mentors want to share their love of sewing with the next generation. Mentors walk students through four fun projects which give them confidence and build their sewing skills. Each session is about 2 hours. We match one student with each mentor. The four beginning sewing sessions teach basic sewing skills, while creating simple and fun projects, within a 4-to-5-week time period. These beginning classes are free. Materials, including sewing machines have been purchased by STM or donated by our sewing community. In the first four sessions students will:

  • Get to know the sewing machine and make a nametag
  • Make a pillowcase
  • Make a sewing tool caddy
  • Make a pillow pal
